- In a previous article, marc_albrecht@act.ohz.north.de (Marc J. Albrecht) says:
-
- >MUI is - for a NORMAL Amiga system - much too slow, needs too many
- >resources and does NOT suit everyone's taste. You CAN do the same with the
- >original software (gadtools) and just have to put a few more minutes into
- >development. So - again I am saying the same as you AFAIK - you can
- >concentrate on porting/writing GOOD software and don't have to concentrate
- >on doing weired graphical stuff that nearly 50% of all Amiga users simply
- >don't want (talking of MUI again).
-
- Normal Amiga..? You mean A500 without a hard drive 1 meg chip NORMAL? A
- few minutes extra in gadtools.. you must be good.. but then again.. ports.
-
- >It's that simple: MUI is a GOOD system (just like Windows for a DOS PC is a
- >real improvement) and gives you nearly the same disadvantages. It slows
- >down ALL of your applications, it comes with a childish look and so on.
- >MANY people LOVE it. Many don't.
-
- Childish look? as in primary colours and large blocky shapes? I guess you
- don't run MUI any version unless it' on the 1.3 O/S
-
- >So in my eyes it is NOT understandable that AT will release software that
- >requires Amiga-Windows-Clones like MUI. Don't bother me with mails a'la
- >"MUI is nothing like Windows" - I know it is not. But it is the same line
- >of history: putting some weired GUI to a system, making developers use it
- >and REALLY wasting lots of computing power - and MANPOWER for that.
-
- You're certainly not forced to use MUI, you're just complaining that the
- rest of us like it and that a lot of apps are starting to show up that
- look tasty but require it. Smell the coffee... it's the better way.
-
- Some of us visually oriented types like the 3D effect, it's easier to
- find things and we like the added features/gadgets that MUI brings.
- Bubbles is another matter.. it's an entirely new direction and maybe
- should be a plugin, but it's the direction Apple went and it's certainly
- helpful for new users or forgetful people.
-
- >If you have an 68060 or similar you can play around with MUI very nice. If
- >you don't... get yourself LOTS of coffee.
-
- Ah.. so MUI is nice if you've got come CPU power..? I like coffee.
-
- >DON'T bother me with answers like "MUI is much faster in V3.xxx". It simply
- >isn't.
-
- No one is going to snow ya... sure it's a bit slower but if we wanted
- speed, we would stick with a base shell and you have that option. I
- suggest that an atractive GUI sells machines which makes future machines
- possible.
-
- >Go ahead - have a look on applications with MUI on a plain Amiga 1200 as it
- >will be shiped as InterNet Bundle by AT. It ISN'T USABEL AT ALL for someone
- >who works with Amiga from the very beginning. It is damned slow. Besides:
- >putting a 14400 Modem to the bundle is a real joke in my eyes. Especially
- >here in Germany where phone costs are incredably high this bundle is a
- >pain!
-
- Well mark, I've had a 2400 on the nets for a while and jumping to a 14.4
- doesn't make a lot of difference inreading mail, the internet has so many
- many bottle necks it's hard to see anything faster.
